Connecting Geographies komt voort uit de publicatie Letter to a Silk Road. Letter to a Silk Road.is letterlijk een brief aan de Kyrgyzische kunstenaars. Het bestaat uit deze brief en een serie tekeningen die ik maakte in een bestaande Sovjetatlas van Kyrgyzstan, een koloniale atlas, gebaseerd op extractie. Mijn vraag in de brief is, of we op basis van deze cartografie tot een uitwisseling kunnen komen, tot een alternatieve zijderoute.  Met als doel gezamenlijk tot een visie op cartografie te komen die níet op extractie  gebaseerd is maar op wederkerigheid. Met mijn atelierbus volgde ik een half jaar in 2023 de historische zijderoute. Ik reisde met de publicatie naar Kyrgyzstan en dwars door conflictrijk Eurazië en terug. De zijderoute besloeg een netwerk, een web over het hele Eurazische continent. Ook nu weer, met het nieuwe Chinese zijde route. Mijn route ging door Noord Turkije, Georgie, Azerbeidjan, met de ferry over de Kaspische zee, via Kazachstan naar mijn doel: Kyrgyzstan. In de uitwisseling met de kunstenaars onderweg en in Kyrgyzstan ontstond nieuw werk dat, nu, tijdelijk, in mijn werkplaats is wacht op een terugreis.

Connecting Geographies arises from the publication Letter to a Silk Road. This is literally a letter to the Kyrgyz artists. It consists of this letter and a series of drawings I made in an existing Soviet atlas of Kyrgyzstan, a colonial atlas, based on extraction. My question in the letter is whether we can achieve an exchange based on this cartography, an alternative Silk Road. With the aim of jointly arriving at a vision of cartography that is not based on extraction but on reciprocity. I followed the historic Silk Road with my studio bus for six months in 2023. I traveled with the publication to Kyrgyzstan and across conflict-ridden Eurasia and back. The Silk Road covered a network, a web across the entire Eurasian continent. Now again, with the new Chinese silk route. My route went through Northern Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, by ferry across the Caspian Sea, via Kazakhstan to my destination: Kyrgyzstan. In the exchange with the artists along the way and in Kyrgyzstan, new work was created that is now, temporarily, in my workshop awaiting a return trip.
